Palin pardons turkey as bird bleeds out on camera

Read ArticleArticle Source: Raw Story
advertisement

In 1963, President Kennedy decided to let the White House turkey live instead of making dinner of it. George Bush Sr. was the first president since to pardon a seasonal fowl, in the waning months of 1993, and his son followed suit through his presidency.

Now Alaska Governor and failed Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has mimed presidential tradition, but her effort at winged mercy was 'cut' short. As she staged an impromptu press conference after pardoning one lucky bird, a worker at the Triple D Farm and Hatchery in Wasilla sliced a turkey's neck, bled it out and twisted its head off behind the governor, directly in the camera's line of fire.

A reporter asked Palin if she was okay with the backdrop. The Alaskan Governor answered, "no worries." As the bird's head was removed, the man looked over his shoulder at the governor and reporters and flashed a toothy grin.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Of course it's Palin's fault.  She was fully aware of her surroundings and this is the image she wants to project.   She might not have known that the guy was going to keep on killing turkeys, but she was standing in front of a tank of turkey blood.

Ben don't worry the story is accurate, the incredulous one is just being anal over the use of the word "as" instead of then. Palinites are just blinded by the right, even though there wrong. She knew what was going on and didn't care did she really think that there would be no children watching?

Well, beyond the specific moment when she issued the pardon, "Palin pardons turkey" could be describing the whole turkey pardoning event.  Everything from when she drove up to the farm to when she drove away.  "Bird bleeds out on camera" describes a small part of that event.

It may not be precise, but it's definitely an accurate headline.

I'm sorry if this is out of line but, usually when the president pardon's the turkey there is a press conference held in the Rose Garden or somewhere on the white house grounds.

Recently our state gov, Bob Riley pardoned the turkey offered to the govenor and it was again on the grounds of the Govenor's mansion.  Now I know we are talking about Alaska "the last great frontier", but why would she have a press conference pardoning the bird at the slaughter house where all the others are not being pardoned?

Yep I would say she wasn't thinking and set herself up for this one.

I never was a fan of Palin's but this smells like a set up to me.

You can see in the beginning, she pardons a tom. The 30 lb'er. She's also inside the holding area for the turkeys.

The next scene is her standing where the process of preparing a turkey takes place. Her "people" should have been more on the ball and said, "No turkey decapitations until she's gone." but they weren't. Or they could have told the camera men to hold the interview at another area of the farm. Someone allowed the gum chewing idiot who had nothing else better to do but turn and smile at the camera the whole time he was putting the turkey in the shoot to cut its head off and push it, to make the blood come out faster. Not once, not twice but 3 times.

Palin really has surrounded herself with a bunch of fools. And the fools make her look like one unbeknownst to her.

Since the libs in Newsvine find it perfectly ethical and honorable to speak of smiting an Alaskan governor, make racist remarks about the black electorate who voted against gay marriage I think it must be perfectly apropos to repeat a joke that somebody told me the other day.

Barack Obama shows up at the pearly gates and St. Peter greets him at the door.

Barack says, Am I where I think I am? Is this heaven?

St. Peter says, "Certainly and the Big Guy has informed us that we need to tighten up our standards a bit, you know since Jerry Falwell and all. You will have to answer one question for me.".

Barack says,"Ok. You mean without media control? Yeah ok."

St. Peter says, "What have you done in your life that is exceptional?".

Barack replies with a grin, "I became the first African-American President of the United States".

St. Peter asks," Really, when did this happen?".

Barack replies," About twenty minutes ago.".

This tastless joke that I posted less than an hour ago is there to show you how it feels to listen and read the prepetual denigration of people who do not agree politically or morally with you and what you see as a "progressive agenda". Senator elect Obama is off limits to any criticism or inquiry regarding his ideology, personal associations, etc. yet you hypocrites post about people that if you met them in person would probably become ashamed of repeating the fodder you hear.Turn around is fair play.  I made my point.

Tom, I think there's a difference when the topic has to do with a subject about Palin's actions, the acerbic commentary that ensues and jumping into the middle with an inappropriate joke about the President Elect.  When did anyone say that you couldn't say anything about Obama???  When he does something, or doesn't....comment.  Please, feel free.  Brandishing about tasteless jokes doesn't help.  If you didn't like the commentary in here, go elsewhere, I'm sure there are plenty of Pro-Palin threads out there.  And, stop with the 'hypocrite' routine.  That was uncalled for.  Other than that, thanks for stopping by, we hope you enjoy your lovely parting gifts...

Ben Grimm #1.19

and while I was doing that people were voting my comment up.

and while Palin was pardoning the turkey, turkey was bleeding out? Nope. Oh, you must mean a different turkey, and at a different time. Hate Palin much?

Accurate, not precise.

Inaccurate, imprecise, nonsense. Moon orbits earth as Grimm makes comments. Horse wins race as jockey brushes teeth. Driver wins race as car sits in parking lot. The implications are clear.

Palin pardons turkey, as turkey bleeds out on camera. is meant to suggest that these events occurred at the same time.  If the events, pardoning and bleeding didn't occur at the same time then there would be no story.

I know it's unclear to you as you believe with all your heart and intellect that "the pardoning" is not actually coincident with the part where you see her reading "the pardon" because it could be describing the whole turkey pardoning event.

But weasel words don't change an honest interpretation that the headline suggests something that did NOT occur. I think most people understand this, even if they're not honest enough to admit it.

Ben Grimm laughs and has a wonderful time as people are murdered at party.

Fog starting to lift yet, as TIO watches TV?

Uncalled for would be my description.  Simply commenting on this thread doesn't qualify as a hypocritical act, as no one on here has suggested you cannot make similar comments about Obama, Biden, etc., if you were want to do so (In an appropriate forum).  If you've had an issue previously with someone on this thread, your comment should have been directed at said person specifically, and not the group as a whole.  I can understand that you may have tired of derisive comments about Palin, but if that is the case, maybe you shouldn't jump into a thread that would obviously carry such.  I don't make that comment callously, merely suggesting that if threads such as these anger you, maybe you should stick to threads that offer a more palatable course of conversation.  Better for the blood pressure.  So smile.  And eat more fiber.

Hate Palin much?

Nope.  While I don't agree with many of her political positions, I certainly don't hate her.  I think she's funny and quirky - and I think that this event was the quintessential representation of the real Sarah Palin.  The pardoning ceremony was funny, the interview was perfectly ordinary if not for the extraordinary backdrop.

Palin pardons turkey, as turkey bleeds out on camera. is meant to suggest that these events occurred at the same time.  If the events, pardoning and bleeding didn't occur at the same time then there would be no story.

Sure there would.  How about "Palin pardons turkey, gives interview while turkey bleeds out on camera."  That would certainly make you happier,  and the imagery is equally awful.  The only real different is that it's much longer and not as headline-y.   Anyone who read the story and/or watched the video knows the whole sequence of events that transpired.

Benn,

If you want a good laugh all you have to do is tune in to CSPAN and watch Congress in action. I've seen Senator Robert Byrd sleep sitting up throughout an hour long speech. He's just a patriarch of the bunch, observe and realize who is making the Laws of our land.

What bothers me is the disdain for eachother that I witness lately relating to politics. It wasn't long ago that Senator John McCain worked closely with President Bill Clinton to try to heal the wounds in Southeast Asia from the vietnam war. It wasn't all that long ago that when President Ronald Reagan was in the hospital after a gunshot, attempted assasination that Democratic Speaker of the House Thomas "Tip" Oneill, a political foe sat and prayed with him for his recovery. These honorable men disagreed with one another over policies but respected eachother immensely. What ever happened to us?

How Sarah Palin Created a Whole New Generation of Vegetarians:

Posing for photographers with her felled caribou, her child inches from its bleeding mouth, Sarah Life-Is-Precious Palin is not confused about where meat comes from. So the turkey being slaughtered in full view of the camera as she conducted an interview at Triple D Farms in Wasilla this week probably doesn't faze her.

But most Americans don't want to see the transformations their turkey went through to get to their Thanksgiving dinner table.

How it lived, how it was shipped, who hung the struggling bird upside down on the conveyer to transport it to the awaiting blade, etc. -- are not thoughts that improve the taste of the cranberry sauce.

I keep going back-and-forth between that video being entirely inappropriate, or considering the person talking, entirely appropriate.  Classic TV, though I admit, I had a hard time keeping both eyes open (For some reason, if I watch gruesome stuff with only one eye open, I'm Ok with it.  Don't ask me why)

I did love the guy doing the deed, though.  I smell a new Joe the Plumber!!  Bob the Decapitator??

I have to say that I think that it is more the fault of the camera person or the producer then her but she should have been more careful about where she stood with the background especially on at poultry farm.

... so my idea of "fresh meat" is something that comes on a styrofoam tray wrapped in plastic.

Do you not see an issue with that?  You are okay eating meat as long as you have no idea how it gets onto the styrofoam tray.   You just ignore the fact that animals are raised, killed, and cut into parts as part of the whole eating meat thing.

I am just amazed that someone is willing to profess ignorance of how their food ends up on the table.  Do you trust the USDA that much?

I have no trouble eating meat, but then again I have no trouble killing the animal that is going to provide the meat, butchering it myself, and preparing it for storage and/or cooking.  For the same reasons, I will not eat veal or fois gras.  I have seen the pens that house the suffering animals that provide veal.  There is a moral distinction between eating chicken or beef and eating veal, and it has to do with how the animal is treated.

Domestic turkey is almost to that point as they have been bred for such large breasts that they have difficultly walking.  I rather just shoot a wild turkey and eat that.

Do you not see an issue with that?

Nope, not really.   I am fully aware of what animal the meat comes from and how it gets on the tray - I just don't need a visual reminder of it when I'm trying to eat my dinner.

Besides, NYC has always been VERY good about food safety, at least in my lifetime.  Better than the FDA/USDA, in fact.

Of course, I now live in PA, so I'm more watchful here, just because I'm not as familiar with their safety record regarding food.   But I stick to larger supermarket chains where the shelf turnover is always relatively good, so I still don't worry too much.

Most of all, I trust my own eyes.  If the meat doesn't look right, or is within a day of expiration, I don't buy it.  I buy fish at places where I know they get a fresh delivery every day.  I don't buy dented cans, boxes that have any creases or slashes from the box cutter, etc.  As much as possible, I buy food in clear containers (plastic bags, jars) so I can clearly see what I'm getting.

Any meat served in my house is cooked through (well done, in fact), so there's no risk of getting sick from undercooked meat.  Fresh vegetables are washed in cold water and scrubbed with a veggie brush, and any questionable spots are cut out.  Most of all, if anything looks, smells, or tastes even slightly off - it goes in the trash.

I've made it through 47 years without a single case of food poisoning, and without anyone eating at my table ever getting sick from something I served.  That's good enough for me.

I've seen footage from when she was a tv news sportscaster.  She is perfectly capable of speaking without the dialect for which she has become famous.  I tend to believe her dialect is more of a folksy affectation than the way she would normally speak.  I say that as someone who is a dialect chameleon myself.  If I'm around someone long enough, I can easily start talking like they do.  My wife can always tell when I've been hanging out with my British or German friends because for a while after I get home I'll still be subtly using their dialect.

It's not even the dialect that is annoying. I don't mind the dialect--I actually kind of like it. I mind that she speaks in circles. Round and round. She is so wordy and says "also" like 10 times in every interview. She's just not the most articulate.

Oh, you are quite the inciter, aren't you?  How inspiring.

I just think she is getting hammered by a bunch of name calling children and feel  it is unfair and over the top.

Name calling?  When?  So, are you suggesting that she is above criticism?  Is she above ridicule for her actions?  You make it sound like people are harping on things she did 3 months ago solely.  The criticisms would've stopped, largely, if she had stopped doing national interviews, stopped doing staged TV spots- which, she is doing to keep her name out there for '12.  She is asking for this, she's not some lost puppy dog in need of your protection.

Her  looks and personality are something I view different than her political stance....................

How refreshing.  Although, no one else had mentioned her looks until you- but it is nice to know that you are able to separate the two and treat her as if she were a real human being.  Wow, a woman can be good looking AND intelligent and successful?  How cosmopolitan an idea from you.  You're such a gentleman.  Curious- Do you project ALL of your discriminatory feelings on others, or just a chosen few?

and she acccepted the challenge and did her duty as an American citizen

What duty was that?  Accept the nomination of VP and then hop around the country spewing salacious and malicious lies?  Wow.  How 'Patriotic' of her!  She must be one of those 'Real Americans' we hear so much about here in Communist California (Oh, I wait with baited breath your witty California cutdown).  As if she did this without a thought as to her own political advancement.  You make her sound like Mother Theresa.

you have to keep making fun of her....IT'S MY CIVIC DUTY.....how sick is that ...what a waste of time.......where does that rate on your CIVIC DUTY TO DO LIST.....#1 ?.......that's the best you got going in your life?.........

Yes, civic duty.  Much like, apparently, you feel it is your civic duty to come in here and spew your comments and derision.  Oh, but wait- you're such a positive voice, aren't you?  Because we get so much from your tripe.  Spare me.  How does that rate on your 'To do list'?

and you say we have to do this because her defenders will elect her President someday.........what the hell is freakin' you out.........if she were as stupid  as you claim............ I would WANT her to be the next Republican Candidate and guarantee a Democratic victory......

Here's a thought- I would like both parties to nominate the BEST that they have to offer.  What a premise!  Not the one that would soothe a base or possibly win some of the women voters from the other party- but THE BEST THEY HAVE TO OFFER!  If my candidate were to lose, I would hope that the winning ticket were the brightest and most qualified that the other side could produce.  I don't want my candidate to run against Jed Clampett just to ensure victory.  I would hope that the competition would bring out the best in both parties.  But, I'm sure that idea is beyond you...

thank you for your lovely stereotype of successful women....Good lookin' and Stupid.

Umm again, I never mentioned her looks, you did.  And, I never grouped ALL women under any part of this.  I commented on the Governor of Alaska, and the Governor alone.  Fact is, there were other women in her party that were more qualified for the VP nomination.  I don't give a second thought as to whether or not women could (or should) ascend to the highest office in the land- they are certainly no less and no more qualified than men to do so.  In fact, we very well might be better off- especially given the last eight years.  I was raised by my Mother, so I am very familiar with the intelligence, strength, compassion and ability to lead that women possess.  So, the stereotyping there is yours and yours alone.  Nice job of projecting again, though.

And your racist remark about Blacks and watermelon is completely off base and uncalled for......

I didn't make a "comment", merely asked you if this was your next racially motivated stereotype to throw out completely out of context.  And food is, unfortunately, a stereotype, just like how you harped on.  It's stupid, incorrect and boorish, but it is still, nevertheless, a sterotype.  Much like the ones you made about Koreans and the Vienamese.  See how those tied intogether?  I knew you could.  Nice cover, though, turning it on me.

but you seem quite used to making fun of people...........

Yeah, when a public figure puts their foot in their mouth, I will poke fun.  Sometimes humor is the best way to educate and to learn, but I'm sure that is lost on you.  Maybe you should watch Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, Bill Maher, Jay Leno, etc., etc.  Poking fun of politicians is actually a pretty popular (and possibly lucrative pasttime).  At least humor is a little less offensive than your denigrating rhetoric.

This was supposed to be for fun.  She said she was promoting a local business and that it was nice to have a little levity. I hate to have to tell you but it was all made up, that pardoned turkey will be on somebodys table, lighten up!

There was nothing to see on the tape, nothing.

These people were doing what they do so that you can have turkey on Thanksgiving.

The tv clip made a big deal out of nothing, I can't believe people are giving it this much thought.

      Nearing,

then post a Opinion Post story about Palin and cruelty to animals. There is enough in that story and in her life to show she doesn't seem to care.

Posting this particular story about how a turkey bleeds out on camera within sight of Palin doesn't register on my Palin Groan meter. This is the sort of things she did before she got the call from Mac. Your seeding it here sends a message to the media that you still want to see stories about Sarah Palin.

I know it's tough for many people to get the woman out of their lives but you can trust me on this and you should take a hint from digadogabone that you own the remote. You have the power to switch internet news stories off and thereby recover your sanity.

If you come across a news item about Sarah Palin and a new attempt to try and collect a dime per gallon from oil and gas sales to give to the people in the State of Alaska ...

in the meantime, this is perfectly normal behaviour for millions of people cameras rolling or not.

Probably was the camera person's angle.....then again....is possible Palin agreed for the 'ag' background....and didn't have a clue...that the poultry processing was going on within full view of the rolling camera.

So, wonder if that freshly processed turkey will be on YOUR table...??

Nearing ... if it walks, talks, crawls, ain't been dead too long and requires Oxygen to breathe either in atmo or under water or inside a rock in a drop of water , it's an animal and the animal world includes the fishes and the insects and the worms and the bacteria.

As a vegetarian, did you know you are responsible for the slaughter of hundreds of pounds of animals yearly just to partake in a Caeser Salad? There is no such thing as a bloodless Salad Bar. They are even genetically altering plants to kill insects ... and what of the birds that eat the insects that ate the poison plants ... sheesh, woman, The Slaughter of Innocents goes much deeper than any rabbit hole Alice ever fell into

Now if you want to start a discussion on the slaughter of sentient beings or animals to fill the dinner plate, we can almost rule out bacteria ... thought some people believe bacteria display a type of intelligence. :)

I am Jeremiah Johnson and I welcome a discussion on sentience and the slaughter of animals, Great and Small, to allow vegetarians to get all huffy with outrage as they falsely claim they aren't hurting anything.

as they falsely claim they aren't hurting anything.

        Who ever said that?

What should we throw the baby out with the bathwater?  Since I can't help but innocently kill insects as I walk down the sidewalk, I should give up trying and slaughter all around me and eat them?

We all have a responsibility to to the best that we can do every day - it's called living mindfully.

Live lightly in the planet, JJ.  That's what some of us try to do.

Nearing, if you eat anything other than a rock -- and mind you now, certain areas of the human experience believe even rocks feel pain -- you are hurting something.

Pain is an electrical signal sent to the nerve centers of every living organism to cause it to flee or fight in the case of most animals, to healing in the case of plants and trees etc.

Let's be truthful here, something has to die in order that you live.

I love your seeds. I've commented many a time. I believe you've been manipulated by the Palin for President - War Machine with a skillful shot of a turkey being slaughtered for someone's dinner in Louisville while mz Palin grins at her accomplishment at pardoning a turkey in a slaughter house.

We know you. We, being your regular followers, and some of us might have preferred you to put this up as a commentary on her hypocrisy instead of an outrage at a live slaughter on camera?

We get it. You're a vegetarian. Most of us probably are not. You take the road of alienating those of us that love the meat and have no qualms about where it comes from while going after Palin for engaging in behaviour that is perfectly normal and without that  we would not be here today in this discussion.

Imagine that, if early tribes of man had decided to hold a discussion about the ethics and morality and health needs of the people just before they went out and slaughtered a North American Mammoth for lunch during the Ice Age when the nutritional value of the plants you value so much would have meant you must eat fifty pounds of greens to get the equivalent amount of energy and proteins for life that can be found in just a few punds of red meat?

I am Jeremiah Johnson and without the high value of nutrition to be found in red meat, we would all have died out during the last Ice Age or even earlier.

You are totally off the mark here. I am a liberal, red-meat eating individual, not a vegetarian and I found this just distaseful. She is a public figure (as much as some of us dislike it) and as such, she must do things that make her a universal figure.

brkfstclblvr ... my comment was directed at Nearing of whom I have had a lot of pleasure reading and the utmost respect for her seeds and efforts to keep us up to date with discussions that are important.

Since you took the time to post what you did, let me continue from "crap".

Despite the fact that Sarah Palin is Governor of Alaska and therefore a public figure, she puts her pants on just like the rest of us. Anybody fawing over Mz Palin and expecting her to act like some sort of hollywood movie queen whose **** doesn't stink just like the rest of us is deluded by said same hollywood fantasies.

You find it distasteful ??? your opinion is noted. Please note that there are programs on History.Science.NationalGeographic that depict the slaughter of animals that are way more graphic than this local alaskan tv spot. You think those fish are dead when they are tossed into the holds of those ships. You think they don't catch sharks and dolphins by mistake and accidently kill those as well?

        i give up

        JJ:

some of us might have preferred you to put this up as a commentary on her hypocrisy instead of an outrage at a live slaughter on camera?

The beauty of this seed is that it actually addresses both issues.

You take the road of alienating those of us that love the meat and have no qualms about where it comes from

It's too bad you feel this way, Jeremiah.  You should realize that you aren't going to find another person in this whole world who agrees with you on every single issue.  If you alienate yourself from people that are on your side 90& of the time because of that 10% that they don't - you will find yourself very lonely.

the nutritional value of the plants you value so much would have meant you must eat fifty pounds of greens to get the equivalent amount of energy and proteins for life that can be found in just a few punds of red meat?

I don't know that this is true, but I do know that for modern man, eating meat increases your ecological footprint astronomically and there are too many of us and not enough resources to continue that practice. Consider the following:

        • Eating animals causes global warming. A major report by the University of Chicago in 2006 found that adopting a vegan diet has a greater impact in the fight against global warming than switching to a hybrid car does.
        • It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of animal flesh. It's shockingly inefficient to feed plant foods to farmed animals and consume their flesh rather than eating the plant foods ourselves.
        • In the U.S. every second, chickens, turkeys, pigs, and cows in factory farms produce nearly 89,000 pounds of excrement, which is contaminated with the antibiotics and hormones that are pumped into these animals. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the runoff from factory farms pollutes our waterways more than all other industrial sources combined.
        • Industrial agriculture consumes and wastes a tremendous amount of resources: In the U.S., 70 percent of all grains, 80 percent of all agricultural land, half of all water resources, and one-third of all fossil fuels are used to raise animals for food.
        • Eating animals destroys the rain forest. Most environmentalists are aware that the Amazon has been slashed and burned in order to create grazing space for cows. But perhaps an even greater threat is the destruction of rain forest in order to create land where feed is grown for factory-farmed animals in wealthy nations. A recent report by Greenpeace blamed the chicken-flesh industry, particularly KFC, for leading the way in destroying the Amazon.

I am Jeremiah Johnson and without the high value of nutrition to be found in red meat, we would all have died out during the last Ice Age or even earlier.

I am nearing and we may not make it into the next Age if we don't start changing our Ice Age ways.

        Nearing,

I love ya, but hey, I have to disagree!  We here in the south have been raising cattle, goats, and other such vegetarians on grass.  Good lord gives it plentifully and no need for grain.  Man has lived a many of centuries eating animals as part of the food chain and our global warning issue is pretty much from our own abuses of mother earth. We also know how to reuse that pesty feces that they leave behind, its called natural fertilizer and will help reap the best crops if used properly. (Yes I'm sorry to say the good Lord had a plan for all of it). Please actually see some things done in person before you base everything you read as fact.

Since your into facts my good friend let me share this one with ya.  I work in a large metropolitan area, in the summer the heat from asphalt, concrete, windows, etc.  keeps the metropolitan area extremely hot even after the sun goes down, however when I leave the city and drive to my home 20 miles out in the suburban area, the temperature gets significantly lower.  That is because I have traveled out of the area where a majority of the structures and landscape is made from heat reflecting materials, again, asphalt, concrete, glass windows, etc.  All of these things contribute to global warming and the fact that every time you look up they are building and going further out in the rural areas therefore killing off pasture lands, cutting down trees, etc.  Just as you mentioned the destroying of the amazon forest, they are cutting them down to sell the timber and create more space for villages.

Animals needless to say were given as food sources.  But I will think about the displeasure you find in it the next time I sit down to a side of bacon, grits, biscuits,(homemade) eggs, fruit and coffee or tonight when I sit down at my dinner table after whipping 1/4 of a bull's butt off my grill and on to my plate.  :))))))))))))

I am Southern Bell and I wish you could all come for dinner!

I wonder how many brain cells it takes for a good camera person to take one step to the right and center a shot instead of using half of their frame to make SURE to get in on the turkey shot.  Or how many brain cells it takes the man to step to the end of the table and TURN AND SMILE at the camera making sure they get the shot before stepping back where he normally stands with his back to the camera to do the work he would normally do?

I usually like a more suitable background when someone is taking pictures of me, ya know flowers, nice in-home shot with normal homely things in the background (book shelves, pictures, etc.

I think most would have taken in consideration the place, the atmosphere and what is happening at the time when taking and posing for pictures, especially on video cameras.  Think she would have noticed the butchery going on and decided, "Ya know maybe I should move over on this side".  I mean for nothing else than to escape getting blood, feces, feathers, etc. on her nice new cloths.  Oh my bad she gave them back didn't she?

I am no longer a vegetarian and understand this kind of slaughter is part of the food chain I participate in myself. I have no qualms with hunters at all, I would rather see an animal live out it's natural life before becoming a part of the food chain.

I also understand the need to euthanise suffering/un-adoptable pet animals, but feel it would be in bad taste to do an interview in front of a table where the shot was being administered...

The only logical(?) reason I can think of for a so called rising politician to let herself be filmed in this position is for shock value.  I hunt, fish, and raise my own food.  No problem with humane killing as I do eat meat and know where it came from.   But the location of this publicity event was in very bad taste.  How many children saw this and turned around to ask mom and dad - Whats that man doing? Why is there blood all over his pants? Why is that turkey being tied up, held upside down inside that machine? Where is the blood coming from under the machine?   Great we can't give kids sex ed before they get pregnant but we can teach them about the joy of killing before they know what death is!  Governor Palin needs to get an idea of what effects her actions have on others.  She has just convinced me she has no concept of propriety.

If I was reading a novel, I would never believe the Palin character. The author wouldn't be able to sell me on the plot concept of this woman potentially becomming the President of the United States of America. I think I would wonder if he/she wrote this story while sitting in a coffee house in Amsterdam. I can imagine throwing the book down in disgust at the author's low regard for my intelligence. Now I can only wish it was a book that I could toss away.

But Agent, in this particular instance, the issue isn't what's done to the Turkeys or how, but whether the Governor of Alaska- the former Vice Presidential candidate- should have had enough sense (When asked) to suggest shooting from a different angle or a different location.  It's not a huge deal, just inappropriate.  And, another in a long line of questionable decisions made by Mrs. Palin over the last few months.  I actually thought that before the turkey execution, she was better than I've seen in a long while in issuing the pardon.  More relaxed and natural (Though I don't believe for a second that she knew that Franklin pushed for the turkey to be the Nation's symbol over the Bald Eagle).

Part of it for me was the @!$%#-eating grin on the butchers face and the timing of her words.

Fun and levity. It was almost as if she was making light of killing. It was like a horror movie.

        She scares me.

I'm sick of all ya bunch of haters. I think Mr. Obama would be ashamed of this mess on here too.  The camera person got extreme enjoyment out of the angle. Almost as much as the man with the big grin.  You have to admit that in the end, you did too. After all, look at all the fun you folks get to have on here feeding on it. *smile*.

It is nice for the first time to actually hear someone admit that they feel theatened enough by the possibilities to admit why they keep on attacking though. I found this honesty refreshing. No one has actually said it before that I've ever found.  Sorta like looking for that girl's smile on that Cruise commercial.

Now, I'm gonna go find something to be grateful for, since it's that time of year.  I guess I should be grateful we live in America and that we all have the liberty and freedom to speak our minds, all of you as well as me, because I am most assuredly outnumbered.  God Bless America? You bet'cha!

without all that went in between, this is a good observation of the content of this thread from people that three weeks ago were rejoicing that Sarah Palin boarded a plane to Alaska and back to her humble beginnings never to torment us (fingers crossed) ever again.

        Has anyone seen the video?

There wasn't anything to see, no wringing of necks, not blood dripping, nothing.

Please, look at the video before you comment and if you choose not too look don't describe the contents on it.

She does not live in Manhattan or Boston.  These people live a different life style in Alaska.  They are not horrified by seeing a turkey being killed. I think the reporter on the video made this tape sound horrific, it wasn't.  If the TV station thought it was so terrible why did they show it.

Have you ever watched a nature channel.  I have seen a whole lot worse watching one of those shows.

My grandfather raised chickens.  My mother would catch them ,wring their necks, the heads would be chopped off, then she would pluck them.  She ate chicken all her life, no big deal.

For people in rural areas this is a part of life.

Give it a rest, you are grasping at straws.

For those of you who say she should have chosen a different angle, this spot wasn't taped for a national audience.  It was on a local TV show. Again, it is a different culture, I would be surprised if anyone went screaming from the room.

The national media are the ones to blame for making this more than it is.

Palin said we invite the criticism. She knew it would go public. Nothing she does this day is shown only on local news.

I actually think it's pathetic in a humorous way. The woman needs desperatly stay in the lime-light for 30 more months.

The other thing I find outrageously silly is the numbers of people that are incensed  that the killing of an animal for food that will be on the tables of 250 million americans at some point in the next few weeks was broadcast on televison. If anyone doesn't know where their food supply comes from by now, they most assuredly should stop pounding on Palin for her lack of knowledge on whether or not Africa is a country.

I was never warned. Palin pardoned the Turkey and I thought it was cool. Then I continued to watch the rest of the interview on my local news, and saw the turkey in the background. Cringed, laughed and turned the channel.

I found it distasteful--am allowed to feel that way. It's the same way Palin and her supporters feel like they are the victims because she was under the bus after she's made herself out to be a fool.

If by "attractive" you mean bottle-haired, $150,000 clothed and made-up, then, yes. If by "successful" you mean she is governor of a state that's mostly managed by the federal government, she was picked for an office beyond her grasp, and that she has lots of snow where she comes from and she dumped that snow on a lot of gullible people, then, yes. If by "educated" you mean with a 15-word vocabulary, then, yes. If by "proud" you mean oblivious, then, yes. If by "energetic" you mean filling time with useless activity, then, yes. If by "accomplishe mother" you mean, well, accomplished mother, then, yes.
