I bought my first iPhone on Friday. Took about an hour a half all together. I walked out of the store with a working, customized phone. Of course the first thing I did was go to the App Store to see what to fill my 16Gs up with and really give the battery a try.
First one I tried was Remotewhich let's me use my iPhone as an iTunes remote control for my MacPro. So cool. I often watch movies on my 30 inch monitor and have often grumbled about the lack of remote (like the iMac have). Now I can watch the Tudors and not have to move my butt from the couch!
I also bought the Scrabble game. This has been great fun. I can play against the computer, solo, or with another person. When playing with another person, you pass the iPhone back and forth. A very neat feature is the shuffle the tiles option which can be controlled by just shaking the phone!
Have you guys been checking out the App Store at Tunes?
Got any favorites? Tell us about it.

Let's keep coming back here as the Apps grow and see what cool things we discover. I am anxiously awaiting a Skpye App. Hmm, and how about a NewsVine App?
And let's bold the name of the App so it is easier for all to find in the thread.
WHERE™. Buddy Beacon® is great fun for finding a place to eat, get some coffee send your friends directions....hint
WeatherBug for me is always a classic as I tend to like to keep a eye on that, runs pretty well, awesome display
Google Mobile App is a neat little thing that is not too well understood and very underrated. It is not a Google search engine, but looks thru Google Labs, for new Google Products. So its a must have...
Currency for someone that one of these days ++cough++ might just need something like that, is not a bad little app for changing around, what more can your say...it does the job..
NYTimes brings you...duh,,,NYTimes,,,,does a very nice job also, wish Newsvine would do this
I agree Remote is cool !
Twitterrific looks ok, I am experimenting with it
Smugshot is kinda different...I might be to old for that crowd...
Weighttracker for those heavyweights like me, looks good, you sure can skip this one
So...those are it so far...all freebies !
Yeah....I kinda sorta know about those "Weight Neutral -SSRI's" yeah right....Effexor is not !
"Smugshot looks fun"--I would agree, once I dumped about 75 pounds....
Thats because their server is dead......mine is not working either......they hope to get it back in a day or so...:-( The support forum, that is the first post.
The Pandora app rocks. I was using it today on the edge network without problems.
The google app is also pretty nice. Someone compared it to Quicksilver for the iPhone. I didn't think it would be useful at first, but after trying it... Wow!
I just bought Backgammon, but haven't tried it yet. I'm interested to see how it compares to the online Javascript version, which is pretty good.

I also like Car Care, which is better than the other similar apps.
FWiW, I've been looking at the "all apps" section of the store and sorting it by date added. This has helped me find a few apps faster than going through each section. (The Pandora app was not available on the first day, and I found it this way.) I check the store about once a day.
I agree. They should have an RSS for the store. iTunes should also allow tabbed browsing of the store and better sorting features for podcasts. I'm waiting. 8-(
Just upgraded to the new software, but haven't got any apps yet. I'll report back once I have purchased a few.
Cube Runner is a fun freebie game that will keep you busy for 15 minutes or so while you have nothing to do.
For those like me who use FeedDemon (Windows) or NetNewsWire (Mac) for their RSS tracking needs being able to do it on the iPhone or Touch is a breeze with the NetNewsWire app.
And Remote rocks.
For one, I use Firefox not Safari, so there's that. And FeedDemon (since I'm on Windows) is a lot easier to use. It's very easy to subscribe to new feeds, the photos in a post are shown, you can see all your feeds in the left pane, it's just all around faster and more versatile.
Brandon, have you tried using Bloglines?
I've found that Bloglines does everything I need an RSS reader to do (feed folders, multiple display layouts, feed favoriting, Firefox "Add Feed" integration, etc.)
I also use Netvibes for more news-headlines-esque RSS aggregating (as opposed to webcomics, Uncrate, etc.), and it has a nice iPhone intreface.
I tried Bloglines for a while, but it seemed like every time I had it open it would crash my browser - which is when I made the switch to FeedDemon and haven't looked back.
Netvibes is nice, too. But with FeedDemon I never really needed it anymore.
Hmmm, I've never heard of FeedDemon.
Will research.
You should, it's a great program.
Hmmm, it's desktop-based, and apparently Windows-only.
I'm gonna pass. I like the flexibility of having a browser-based RSS aggregator.
I figured you knew it was desktop-based. But you can log in to the Newsgator website and there's a browser version there when you're away from you're main computer.
There's also a Mac version called NetNewsWire (A lame name, I know).
I've definitely heard of NetNewsWire. Not my cup o' tea. Thanks for the info, though.
Took her an hour and a half to get her phone? I got in line at 930am and didn't leave the store until almost 5pm.
First thing I did was take a look at the free aps. I got the ebay and pay pal ones. Also downloaded a baseball stats ap as well as a sports and news aps. Again, all free.
I have an iPod Touch, and was rather annoyed for two days during whic I constantly tried to download the usually-nonexistent 2.0 update.
Remote: Great little app. If you have more than 1 Mac (2 Macbooks, in my case) in the house, it's great fun linking both to your iTouch, and messing around with the other person's music. :-p
easyTask: GTD iPhone app, syncs with the easyTask desktop app (?). Haven't tested out syncing, cuz I'm not a GTD guy, though looking into it.
Light: Simply turns your screen white, making your backlight dimly light the way in the dark. A bit silly, but it works. :-p
eReader: eBook reader integrated with eReader.com. I'll be trying to figure out how to put free eBooks in it later.
Bloomberg: This only provides access to the public, delayed-update version of Bloomberg, and drilling down into news not in World Headlines involves playing a game of corporate-news association.
CheckPlease: Check and tip calculator, which lets your evenly split the check among pretty much any pratical number of people, and calculate corresponding split tips.
Tap Tap Revolution: This is better than the previosu version for jailbroken devices, but it loses the "search your library for Tap-Tap-enabled songs" feature, and requires unassociated downloads from their server. Pesky. Oh, but it's two-player now, laying the iTouch/iPhone flat between you two, with your opponent playing from the top edge of the portrait-layout screen.
Morocco: An Othello App. Pretty straightforward. It works. It has some nifty options. It's Othello.
RubyRepeat: A short-term memory, where you hit an progressively lengthening sequence of red jewels arrayed in a Simon Says array on the screen.
Light: Simply turns your screen white,
Hah ! Good....I did not want to admit it...or you could have gotten ripped off for $.99 and downloaded Flashlight and then at least you could change colors, but from the reviews, it was still worthless.
I never got the update offered. I called the local store and they gave me a URL and that worked out fine.
So far, looks like Remote is common to about everyone.

And now myLite is free, offers a color spectrum, along with strobing and cycling effects.
