From the McCain website:

Help spread the word about John McCain on news and blog sites. Your efforts to help get the message out about John McCain's policies and plan for the future is one of the most valuable things you can do for this campaign. You know why John McCain should be the next President of the United States and we need you to tell others why.

Select from the numerous web, blog and news sites listed, go there, and make your opinions supporting John McCain known. Once you've commented on a post, video or news story, report the details of your comment by clicking the button below. After your comments are verified, you will be awarded points through the McCain Online Action Center.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I have no real use for the Kossacks myself (I started an account over there and left because of the echo), but it seems hardly fair to criticize them and leave out the equal percentage of those on the right who also lack the capacity. The distribution of zealotry to critical thinking is not correlated to political opinion: we just tend to forgive or not notice the poor thinking of people whose opinions we agree with.

For every Kossack, I'll see you a Freeper.

Freed and TBone *LOL* I have to agree with AdipicAcid in principle. There's nothing worse than being in a discussiion with several people only to have the "weak link" on your side: the one who believes because they believe. While there seems to be a preponderance over on the right for some reason (I wonder why...) the liberal side also has their share of the intellectually lazy..

So, anyone have any ideas on who's going to win the Presidential election?

You fellows are correct. Not to over generalize, but my experience has been similar. They are all starry eyed robots that can't follow along with any given topic. Whenever you attempt to pin them down on a position or tangible fact, they just retort with generalized Jesus statements or bible quotes. It is very frustrating to say the least.

Which is great. My alma mater was nominally Presbyterian and still had a required religion class when I attended. (It may still, I haven't checked.) The most marvelous thing about many people who sling Bible quotes to justify their preconceived notions is that they usually haven't read the thing*: they just sling the quotes that their indoctrinators have repeated to them. Bringing context usually confounds them pretty badly. The idea that someone would think about the Bible, rather than robotically repeat a few highlights from memory is actually frightening to them.

*I myself will admit to skimming the begats. For that section I adopted Einstein's dictum: "I do not memorize that which I can look up."

True, but it's still funny that he's commanding people to do this, and it smacks of desperation.

Compare to the Ron Paul campaign and it's large cadre of independent websites, who even engineered the Guy Faux day fundraiser. Ron Paul never even commented on it until after it actually happened.

He had a true grassroots, bottom-up campaign.

Mccain wants a bottom up campaign, but he thinks he can accomplish it by commanding people to do things. All it does is show he hasn't a clue, whereas, for example Paul is knowledgeable/relevant enough that his book "The Revolution: A Manifesto" addressed this exact topic and and hit #1 on NYTimes bestseller list.

I don't see it as an order, but a suggestion. Checking what Obama suggests.
Closest thing they have is phonebank, email 10 friends, join local grassroots groups. Darn, my point fails until someone finds an example.

Jivatman:
You make a good point. Obama and Paul both have the kind of grassroots enthusiasm that they just have to channel. They bury these kind of volunteer tools deep on their websites which are heavily trafficked because of the number of supporters they have that want to help. McCain, IMO, looks somewhat desperate in telling anyone who looks at his website what he wants his supporters to do.

If this is how McCain is going to tackle Internet campaigning, I suggest that he abandon it. This will only cause more damage to his campaign by his supporters being widely viewed as spammers rather than legit volunteers, akin to that woman running around Newsvine urging people to go to that site and lobby delegates to vote for Hillary Clinton even though she has lost everything under the sun. McCain should, perhaps, run a system using phone calling and more traditional communications. It would be more effective than this.

On the other hand, you have a man running for President who actually ENCOURAGES spamming.

@arcanebliss, #5.2: I would agree, except the idea of the movement is (to quote McCain's website):

"Select from the numerous web, blog and news sites listed here, go there, and make your opinions supporting John McCain known. Once you've commented on a post, video or news story, report the details of your comment by clicking the button below. After your comments are verified, you will be awarded points through the McCain Online Action Center."

Which is fine and dandy as long as the comments pertain to the post, video, or news story. Otherwise, it's completely irrelevant.

Spam: Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail.

Which I'm sure we all know what it is; I'm just placing the generic definition for easy access for people like me who like being technical. ;) While the definition focuses on email, posts and comments on sites have become no exception.

In conclusion, unless if McCain supporters are incredibly sly and manage to keep on topic with whatever they're commenting on while promoting McCain (which I would still see as holding spam undertones), it's just spam to the rest of us.

I am not quite sure that this can qualify as spamming. A large portion of the political debate in this country resides on the web and it does seem like the most crucial election of a lifetime to many people regardless of what side they might be on.
Are you saying that the McCain supporters shouldn't post positive things about their candidate? I personally don't go to over to conservative websites and post on behalf of Obama but I have a life. Would it be wrong if some of us who feel that Obama gets misrepresented by the Right go on a conservative website and try to defend our views? I am just not sure I would stop anybody from doing that even though I think it's a little creepy.

I thought the Obama campaign was already doing this. I have had to delete at least 10 emails a day from the "Pied Piper" campaign.

It seems a bit hypocritical that Obama supporters are so supportive of their candidate's success on the internet yet when an opponent wants to spread his message it is spam?

Ah, the young! I remember when I was young and gullible.

Voters who are pro and anti Obama both tend to support the campaigns revolutionary efforts to harness internet advertising power, the support isn't just exclusive to your typical Obama supporter. I am an Obama supporter and earlier in this comment thread stated that it is smart that McCain is asking that his supporters chat about their support with others.

Lets try to not generalize here.

This is McCain's way of trying to make his supporters into the Internet users that many of Obama's supporters are. However, trying to regulate it openly on his website will likely make him look like a spammer more than anything else.

I think this is probably the only rational answer in this "debate". The abuse that both sides heave upon one another only serves to fill the pockets of cable news agencies that make their living off of the constant fighting between the constituencies of both parties.
As for the candidates, after we are threw calling each other names they will go out to dinner together and have a good expensive meal; Divide and conquer

Hetep and Respect NEARING, this is my first time visiting the McCain web site. The good news is, that compared to Obama, McCain is computer illiterate. If you compare the web sites the Republicans have lost the election before they leave the starting gate.

The bad news is that many Americans will be fooled by this life long anti-humanist's "patriotism" video and time line.

Political Points for targeted spam, that's different, but Republican.

Hetep and Respect Cletus Wilbury, You are right about his foreign policy section and the general content of his technology head quarters (Web site). He is also the only one with a Digital vision.

I don't know about the computer illiteracy part

Think about it, everyone I know over 50 years old is computer illiterate. Hillary and Bush/McClain are included in that group. The only reason Hillary knows her URL, is because Obama demonstrated one aspect of his digital vision teaching his competitors about the new way to independently fund political office.

Every technologist should be motivated to vote Obama because he wins on technology issues hands down among other things.

Still, Mrs. Clinton's claim that she is best positioned to win the "hard-working Americans, white Americans" has become the linchpin of her argument that she is more electable than Mr. Obama.

But Mr. Teixeira, who is not backing either candidate, does not buy that argument. He dismisses intraparty contests as "pretty poor evidence" of whether Mr. Obama, as the Democratic nominee, could attract the blue-collar support he would need against Senator John McCain, the presumed Republican nominee.

    No Majority Needed

And how much blue-collar support would Mr. Obama need? Not a majority, said Mr. Teixeira. Though blue-collar Democrats once represented a centerpiece of the New Deal coalition, they have shrunk as a proportion of the information age-economy and as a proportion of the Democratic base.

Al Gore lost working-class white voters by 17 percentage points in 2000, even while winning the national popular vote. Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts lost them by 23 points in 2004, while running within three points of President Bush over all. Mr. Teixeira suggests that Mr. Obama can win the presidency if he comes within 10 to 12 percentage points of Mr. McCain with these voters, as Democratic candidates for the House did in the 2006 midterm election.

In recent national polls, that is exactly what Mr. Obama is doing. A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll showed Mr. Obama trailing by 12 percentage points with working-class whites; a poll by Quinnipiac University, showed him trailing by seven points. In each survey, Mr. Obama led over all by seven points.

What will it take for the democrats to actually get the vote of those they are working for? If the republicans can get their vote by screwing them, but being anti-gay bigots, can't Obama and the democrats get their vote by continuing to fight for them and taking up a banner issue like______?
